I've wrapped up the last two weeks of the reading schedule, which now lists all the required reading until the end of the term. Some optional readings may be added later.

I've just uploaded today's talk on problem solving. You can find it on the Readings page.

I've also made some minor adjustments to the schedule for next week, since we're running a little behind. Next week we'll be covering ACT-R, the imagery debate, and agnosia. There are no additional readings (other than the textbook).

I've posted the lectures from this week. Enjoy.

As I noted last week, we'll be talking about Biederman on Tuesday. You should go ahead and start the next chapter, however, since we'll begin that in the second half of class.

Because we're just finishing Biederman, we'll probably stop there for the first midterm. This week's chapter — on memory, imagery, and problem-solving — will be on midterm 2.

I've uploaded the study sheets for chapters 2-4, which should help you review the set of topics you'll need for the midterm.  They are available on the new "Study Sheets" page.

Enjoy.  More study sheets should be posted tomorrow.

Reviewing for the first midterm June 6, 2006

During our meeting today, the TAs and I discussed how to handle the review for the first midterm. For various reasons (partly due to logistics, partly due to areas of expertise) an evening review session isn't practical for the midterm. So here's what we're going to do:

  • At the beginning of the next three class sessions we will take 10-15 minutes to discuss review questions from the students. Please bring questions! Obviously, this works best if you start studying early rather than waiting.
  • In addition, there will be online review resources based on the blog. If you would like to ask an online review question, please add it as a comment here. Either I, Brooks, Jun or Larry will attempt to answer it.
  • Note that since there will be a short review session at the beginning of class on the day of the midterm, it is in your best interest to arrive on time.

I've noticed that some of the comments that were left were caught by the spam filter. I'll check it more often, and hoepfully this won't be a problem in the future.

There is a good student study site for the textbook. Some of you may have had trouble reaching it previously because the URL in the textbook is capitalized differently. The site has a number of resources (such as self-quizzes) that you may want to use as you prepare for the midterm. I've added the URL to the bookmark list as well (look at the right column of this page).
